The Nebraska Workers’
Compensation Reform (Legislative Bill 757) became law on September 9, 1993. It
involves the need for safety committees and injury prevention programs in the
workplace.
The purpose of the Safety
Committee is to bring employers and their employees together in a
non-adversarial, cooperative effort to promote safety at each workplace.
All Nebraska employers, both
private and public, who are required to pay Workers’ Compensation on their
employees are subject to the provisions of LB 757. An employer must have an
equal number of committee members representing management and non-management.
The number of committee members is determined by the employer.
The
Rules and
Regulations adopted by the Nebraska Department of Labor explain how the
Department will enforce that portion of LB 757 regarding the Workplace Safety
Program.
