In order to alleviate some problems that users have experienced when connecting to the NIS website (http://nis.ne.gov), we recommend that all users' Internet Explorer settings be configured in accordance with our posted instructions.

Here is an example of a Windows batch script which configures these settings automatically. It can be used as a logon script to push them out to all users.

If you wish to use it, edit the file in Notepad and customize the value of the iezone variable with the appropriate value for the Security zone to which the website nis.ne.gov belongs for your users.

Value Zone

1

2
3
4
Local Intranet
Trusted Sites
Internet
Restricted Sites

Note that if the Internet zone is selected then the Security settings in the script will apply to all Internet websites. It may be preferable to select the Trusted Sites zone so that those settings only apply to the NIS website. If Trusted Sites is selected then nis.ne.gov will automatically be added to that zone.

Once the iezone variable is customized, save the file and rename it to NIS_IE_SETTINGS.cmd

If you have any Windows 2000 workstations, place a copy of reg.exe in the same directory as the script.

Please test this script carefully to ensure that it does not conflict with any of your existing settings or systems.
